Event Description

This event is an opportunity for people within and outside Government, who are developing programmes supporting local online projects, to tell each about their plans - and get some input from those working on the ground or in research.

We hope it will also be a chance for everyone to share practical
experience, and develop some ideas on how to blend new and older ways of communicating.

We have people attending at programme level from Communities and Local Government, Ministry of Justice, IDeA, Media Trust/Community Voices, Young Foundation, RSA, Talk About Local.

The agenda is flexible, as explained here

After introductions, we want to hear from programme leaders ... and then from others who want to propose a topic for discussion.

We'll break into groups, report back, and remix as necessary.

The opening presentations will be short - just two minutes - with a chance to expand in group discussions. A timer will be on the table!

If you want to make a two-minute presentation - as programme or topic leader:
* please add a comment below
* if possible offer us some content online before the day. This could be a link to your programme, a blog post on this site, or something for the wiki.

Thanks Sue. I was involved in early discussions about the workshops, so can add something since Antonio is on leave. Agree about regional and local. The original idea was to bring together the various national bodies to help them - hopefully - develop collaborative programmes that would make best use of their resources in supporting local initiatives. I hope we'll hear more on that on the 21st, with everyone adding to the mix their perceptions of what's needed. The social reporters group here is already developing ideas.
And yes, thanks for the mention of Sweeble as a great example of how online and print can be used together. My hope is that we can evolve a maketplace here or elsewhere for ideas, products and services useful to local initiatives. I also came across the open publishing lab, which looked intersting.
Totally agree on sharing what happens anyway, as well as what's "planned". I think social reporting has a role there too, and that cross-network role is something I'll be pursuing. Practitioners don't always find time to tell others about the great things they are doing, and what they learned from that (and the failures).

Framework looks great, Amy & David! Couple of points I'd like to add. Firstly, would be good to see something like this translated into regional events - cost and time of always trekking to London to talk 'national' doesn't suit everyone. Secondly, if you're talking about 'resources available', can I mention Sweeble? Thirdly, seems a lot of emphasis on what govt may be doing/thinking as an agenda driver - my experience is local tends to happen regardless (even despite!) govt initiatives and think sharing good local practise is key.

Amy has now added a suggested framework for the event over here.

Hi Antonio - looking forward to the 21st, and thank you for the invite. Both myself and Gavin Sheppard will attend from Media Trust. Unfortunately, we're not able to join the 18th September workshop, but look forward to hearing more about it the following Monday.

looking forward to this. Agree with David that a mapping session would be very useful. Also, as RSA will be there, would be good to explore their pro-social research through the lens of local communities.
