A community around using social tech for social impact

Just a shout out to those members using Ning as their hyperlocal software, the OpenlyLocal Ning application has just been approved and is now in the Ning Application Directory.

This means you can now have key council info, including forthcoming meeting dates, councillors, committees etc right there in your Ning community. This is very much a first draft, and more functionality will be added in the near future (do' worry, you won't have to change anything the changes will occur automatically.

The app takes only a minute or so to add to your community, and full instructions are on the blog post, OpenlyLocal info on your hyperlocal website, Part 2: Ning app.

Would love comments and suggestions, either here or on the blog.

p.s. For anyone not familiar with it, OpenlyLocal is a project to open up local government data, particularly democratic data (e.g. meetings, councillors etc)

Hi CountCulture, great! have added app to a site re a two tier area. Borough council (Tonbridge and Malling) doesn't look to be availble yet, so have chosen Kent County Council. Ideally would have both, but suppose when T&M available I can change to that and just add a link to the OpenlyLocal page for KCC (and maybe Tonbridge and Malling Local Board) or is / will there a better way of doing it? Cheers.

Good question. I've got a few ideas of better ways to achieve this, but just tied up with doing a bit of backend programming at the moment. However, do feel free to give me a nudge if nothing's appeared in the next couple of weeks. Ditto doing Tonbridge and Malling. Had a quick look at that and seems reasonably feasible to parse the data.
Thanks
