Amy Sample Ward commented on David Wilcox's group Social tech in Big Society
"David - I totally agree about that response. I am always the first to say that campaigns, programs, services should never be ONLY online, but they also should not be ONLY offline. So, what is it we want to do and achieve, and what tools - whether…"

Amy Sample Ward commented on David Wilcox's group Social tech in Big Society
"Just wanted to say, at the start of this group/space/emerging conversation that I'm in agreement with David on the fact that talking about this topic does not mean talking only about technology, but I have to recognize and admit that in our…"

Project Spaces: A Format for Outcome-Driven Events

This event format that I'm calling Project Spaces is a response to my experience and what I hear echoed throughout the "innovation" sector: that we have lots of opportunities to come together and people are excited to share and collaborate, but nothing ever "happens." Project Spaces is a format that includes a longer-term process instead of just one day and requires commitment, excitement and purpose in order to succeed. If you are an organization or group that wants to catalyze and support…See More

How to Join This Network: Ensuring new members are also community members

This might be the first private online network you've joined - or maybe you can't even count the number of groups and networks you belong to online. Either way, we want this network to be a safe place for ideas, an easy way for people interested in the issues discussed to find each other, and a secure place for members to find and network with each other. As all online spaces are, we are susceptible to spammers and trolls (not the under-the-bridge type, but the ones who may want you to find…See More

David Wilcox commented on Amy Sample Ward's blog post What do you want to talk about on September 21?
"Dave - agreed, time to get beyond the tools. As Sam McLean says over here public participation hasn't generally provided the changes we need. Can social media help promote shifts of attitude ... shift of powers?"

Anything you would like to say about you or your projects?
I am dedicated to supporting and educating nonprofits and the progressive social change sector about evolving technologies that cultivate and engage communities. My passion is in connecting nonprofits with new media technologies, watching the field of nptech evolve, and having conversations about where we can go next while still getting everyone on board with what we have already.

I’m happy to have spoken at conferences, workshops, and training days in the US and the UK. I’m a member of and have served in different capacities for NTEN (as a local organizer in Portland, OR, and an ongoing volunteer) and NetSquared (where I’m currently the Global Community Development Manager and the organizer of London Net Tuesday), and a fellow of the RSA. I also recently co-authored Social by Social, a handbook in using social technologies for social impact.

Have a nice day

Thanks God bless.

Hi Amy thanks for the welcome. I have now uploaded a photo, which I suppose does provide circumstantial evidence that I am a human being and not a spambot...

At any rate I will be quite direct about why I have joined:-

In the short run I am interested in letting people know about an event on 7 September 2010, in Finsbury Park. There is more info on my personal profile. Virtual attendence by commenting on the event blog would be very welcome, as would of course attendence in person...

In the long run I believe that we will get something going in Finsbury Park, and this network will be a useful resource for us; and I hope we will be a useful resource for this network.

Hi Amy, thanks for the reply. I've been chatting about the relationship between offline and online presence, learning and social technologies with David Jennings, David Gauntlett and Dougald Hine at the SoE Unplugged! meetup on Wednesday mornings at the Royal Festival (5th floor). Be good to have some chats with you and David W. when you get back. Enjoy the break.
