Stickyboard aims to celebrate and promote local activity by providing an online neighbourhood noticeboard for each borough in London. Here local residents, groups, clubs and businesses can share their news, events and services for all to see.
The problem
Increased mobility and lack of "down time" mean many people are unable to take advantage of the services in their community be it for finding childcare or fixing a leaking roof. According to “Good Housekeeping”, bad tradesmen cost homeowners £1,592 on average last year alone.
With the recession in full swing small businesses are also suffering. The cost of traditional advertising excludes those who need exposure the most. According to the Office of National Statistics, of the 59,100 new enterprises born in London last year, 40,455 have already folded. The lack of a simple effective means of reaching out to their community is often cited as a major reason for businesses folding.
The cost isn't just financial, often people miss out on great events such as festivals, fairs and shows on their doorstep simply because they never get to hear about them. Communities that could work together for the betterment of all remain apart.
The idea
Our goal is to create a space where people can connect with the world around them. By bringing everything together in once place in a clear and useable manner, Stickyboard allows people to share their stories, see good local services and to find out what's going on near them. We sum this all up in one phrase - Your Community, Your Neighbourhood, Your Noticeboard.
