hi Aiden, feel free to add the events with links to your site, I haven't placed any restrictions on it at the moment and we'll see how it develops. Clare

Hi Clare, this looks really useful. We are currently developing our new website at Media Trust and a key feature we want to build in is a way of enabling people to see who's where, and what's going on in terms of events, training and digital mentors…

I set up this map some time ago for the Hyperlocal Allinace group on Linkedin, and have now started adding events to it. I'm realising it's a bit tricky to add everyone by geographic area, so if you want to add yourself or anything else to the map,…

I like all these points, though I might go further than 'not evil'. What about 'generous' ? And maybe as number 10: 'Obsessed', or maybe less scarily 'Persistent'. Today I heard a tiny gem in a morning of too many presentations: that Japanese compa…

I am very new to the world of social media and on a serious catch-up mission. Very interested in night of ning in Stoke and keen to learn more about their potential.

Here's some film of happy people who attended a Talk About Local session in Kington Hererfordshire in August. Always good to see real folk talking about this stuff rather than geeks - town councillor, new internet user and a police sergeant

In case you haven't seen the Knight News Challenge yet, the deadline isn't far away and there is a web chat about it tomorrow: http://www.newschallenge.org/index.html "We seek innovations that use new or available technology to distribute content i…

Hi all, just thought I'd mention, if anyone is interested in involvement with UKGC10 - (UKGovcamp, barcamp)- to take place in January 2010 - there's a Local (local communities) group within that (as well as the separate LocalGov group)

Thanks Paul - may I ask what level of resource has/is needed for a site like navcaboodle ... and thoughts on tasks? Keen to compare notes on future development of this site ... and to provide some guidance for others. I'm thinking (compressing Steph…

We are already experimenting with the new Ning apps on navcaboodle test group. Integrated Qik look very slick! Also tried out the embedded Poll feature which is good too. Happy to chat or whatever.

Hi Clare - all There were quite a few people at the workshop this week using Ning for local and other networks. I expect Amy and I will be looking at ways to enhance this site. Is it worth setting up a group called ... um ... Ning things ... to sha…

Hey Clare I've been exploring this recently from a slightly techie angle. Using the 'Analytics' code option from the Manage interface it is possible to add in all sorts of extra Javascript which, with use of a library like jQuery makes it possible…

Concerns about privacy are a poor excuse for councils to avoid or block social sites. You don't (or shouldn't) ban council workers from talking to people on the streets, you simply say they shouldn't share people's personal information while they're…

thanks Paul, navcaboodle is a really good example of a Ning that seems to have encouraged a lot of newcomers to post and share.

Clare Can I offer up our ning site navcaboodle as a growing network for those in CVS-land. It sprouted from an idea I had and is now being lovingly cared for by @sospot. You do need to register - but only to leave your profile - we approve anyone w…

I was reminded reading the title that in the world of wikis we used to make Gardening an explicit role: eg http://www.socialtext.net/exchange/index.cgi?wiki_gardening_tips

hi Clare, I have great difficulty accessing this site, so can't really chat much on it. Ning sites are not allowed on our network, haven't got to the bottom of it yet, but 180 of us can't access them without putting an 's' at the end of http on every page click, very annoying and hard to explain to newbies.
I will check back if you email me and do the best I can.
chris
