I've just joined the group and not sure of the etiquette so I thought I would introduce myself and my new social enterprise.
I am a design consultant and have been for many years. In my shady past I have been on the wrong end of consumerism creating delightful products with engaging experiences that for all intense purposes were developed to make people buy more stuff (though in my defense I designed some tools for good along the way too).
Pushing clients to become more sustainable was tough at the time and they only started listening when forced to by consumer demand. But I wanted them to not only create recyclable products from recycled materials, I wanted products that were more robust, longer lasting and fixable. I needed to change the way consumers related to the products they own, to see them as assets and create a new type of consumer demand.
So three years, ago I got together with my friend Meriel and what came out of our research was an online tool that can equip people with the resources they need to make a difference.
introducing ecomodo : the marketplace of good returns ..
lets people lend
each other's everyday objects, skills and spaces with confidence. People can choose to lend for free, to make a little money for a personal cause or to donate their earnings to a good cause (any not-for-profit group from charities, school PTA, scout group etc). Ecomodo facilitates the transaction to make good returns for all.
Individuals can set up lending circles
around any type of community (a street, neighbourhood, school, faith centre workplace, council, charity, community group or club) and invite people to pool their resources for the common good. People can use their circles to restrict their lending and choose to take a deposit or insurance for extra peace of mind. Enriching a local community, a pooled resource gives everyone the chance to live a richer life and opens up the possibilities to try new things without the associated financial and environmental impact.
Whether you are an individual, a charity, a community group, school or other public or private organisation, Ecomodo can help you enrich your community. Find out how to get involved.
OK .. pitch over ..
We launched just a few months ago and are already gaining some momentum throughout the UK. We believe that Ecomodo is a useful tool for everyone; in their personal life, their work life and to help them build a better place for their community.
I'd love to hear our thoughts and views .. over to you.
